How to Stay Positive During Hard Times

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalms 46: 1 

Ok, it’s spiritual hour. Let’s talk about how to manage tough situations by keeping yourself as mentally sane as possible. It is hard staying positive when you’re going through problems in your life. There’s a lot of times when you want to give up and need motivation to get through. Here are some of the ways I try to keep myself in good spirits when I’m struggling through problems.

  1. Write: If you are just full of a thousand thoughts and don’t have anyone to vent out to or any type of support system, get a journal to write down your thoughts. When your mind is cluttered and you can’t think clearly, it is because you have too much going up on there. You need to clear it out.
  2. Keep your thoughts in check: Rid your circle of toxic people and toxic situations. Listen to positive music, a sermon, a motivational speaker. Audible has a great selection of books. There are a plethora of YouTube channels where you can find a positive messages.
  3. Prayer and & Meditation: I have already talked about how crucial meditation is for your life. If you missed that post, you can check it out here. If you have never experienced the power of prayer, you are truly missing out on the miracles that take place in your life everyday that you are completely unaware of. When you speak to God, or whomever your higher power may be, a wave of peace should overcome you. Recently, during prayer, I felt His Spirit touch me. I immediately began crying. It was unlike any feeling I’d ever felt before. If you trust Him, your prayers will be answered. I’m not a preacher, but I can testify to this fact! Pray BIG and be specific!
  4. Breathe: Take time to just breathe. Breathe deeply when you feel the walls caving in. Go for a walk or do a full blown workout. Stay active. Don’t sit in the house and sulk. Go outside and soak up the sunshine.
  5. Do things you enjoy: It’s important to enjoy your life. Yeah so, things might suck a little right now, but be thankful, you are alive. Go out with your friends and dance; go to a comedy club; or go on a mini-vacation. Do anything that makes you happy, even if it’s only for a brief period. It’s worth it.

Believe in yourself. You have in you what it takes to make it through anything. You just need to learn to manage your symptoms. Be encouraged-until next time!
